Mediterra Named Community of the Year

Sixth Time in 10 Years for Community with Homes Above $2 Million

Naples, FL (Oct.11, 2010) – For the sixth time in 10 years, the Mediterra Golf and Beach Club community in Naples has been named Community of the Year by the Collier Building Industry Association.  Mediterra achieved a perfect score from the judges for a community priced at $2 million and above.

Mediterra, located along Livingston Road in north Naples, is a 1,700-acre master planned community with a maximum of 950 homes.  More than 1,000 acres in the community are dedicated to golf, parks and nature preserves. The community includes two 18-hole Tom Fazio-design championship golf courses, limited to just 225 members per 18-holes.  Other amenities include a private Beach Club with dining and a second-story pool located on the Gulf of Mexico, a 25,000 sq. ft. clubhouse with two restaurants, Sports Club with tennis, fitness and spa facilities, and more than eight miles of bicycle and walking paths connected to three distinctly themed community parks.

Sand Dollar judge Sonja Polster, an industry veteran from Orlando, cited “attention to detail in every aspect of the planning” as one of Mediterra’s defining elements.  “The winding roads and lush landscaping are reminiscent of the European countryside, honoring the overall theme of the community, she noted. “The parks, club house and amenities are luxurious, yet very comfortable,” she added.

Judge Madeleine Jamolca, an interior designer from Miami, was struck by the diversity of design within Mediterra. “The various neighborhoods had a character all their own,” she said.  “And the expansive architectural styles created a fresh and appealing variety that is too often overlooked in community design,” she said.

Naples-based London Bay Homes is the community’s largest land owner and is responsible for Mediterra’s marketing and sales programs.  In addition to London Bay there are eight other preferred builders at Mediterra. Homes are priced from the $500’s to more than $7 million.

“It’s a great honor to earn such a celebrated award, especially when it’s judged by industry experts from across Florida,” said London Bay President Mark Wilson.  “The Club’s staff and Board of Directors have done a remarkable job of managing the spectacular amenities and providing financial stability to the Club’s operations.  With more than $80 million in real estate sales since the first of the year, Mediterra remains one of the most successful luxury master planned communities in the area,” he added.

London Bay is celebrating its 20th year in the Naples market and has developed its reputation building custom homes in many of the area’s most exclusive neighborhoods and communities.  In 2008, the company was one of just two companies that earned recognition as “America’s Best Builder” from the industry’s leading publication, Builder Magazine.  The company builds custom, semi-custom and intimate Village neighborhoods from Marco Island to Sarasota priced form the $700s to more than $10 million.
